I’ve just finished reading The Vulture by Gil Scott-Heron. Its a story from the late 60′s based in the ghetto, New York City. A man known well for his lyrics Gil does not disappoint. If you know anything about Gil you will realise while reading this book that that he’s telling stories close to his own experiences.

Slightly anxious to hear what his new album sounds like after a 13 year gap. I don’t expect to hear another Pieces of a Man but I have Gil on a very high pedestal and want to keep him there.
Me And The Devil is our first taster and its left my mouth watering. The spoken word at the end on the clip below is the first page of The Vulture. Read it.

So this is Hip Hop, now I get it….

I don’t consider myself the biggest fan of Hip Hop so I find myself in unfamiliar territory. No matter what your preference if you cant see the talent being displayed on stage you must be numb or dumb. I know its an old clip but it’s the first time I’ve come across it so sharing is caring and all that…

This weekend I came across a few documentary’s via the amazing YouTube and thought I’d share my findings.

The History of House was an entertaining watch that had me bouncing in my seat throughout. Having a massive love affair with music myself I felt like I was falling deeper and deeper for it. Having a better understanding of where the music came from, how it evolved and grew and meeting the people responsible for making it all possible was a complete joy. What I wouldn’t do to have a taste of the scene back then….Enjoy!

Maestro Larry Levan & early DJ culture is a great incite into New York City’s Paradise Garage 1976 to 1987. I need little encouragement to get excited about this scene, this documentary confirmed all my feelings. I’m in love dancing….

Weather Up, 589 Vanderbilt Ave, Brooklyn, NY 11238. So impressed with this place, attention has been paid to every detail. The flash on my camera zapped the vibes but here are a few pics.

Santos Party House. DJ Spinna and Giant Step present: Journey. It was dead, though the few people in there were giving it their all. Its a weekly event and I get the feeling people are saving themselves for the long weekend…

It’s the first day of a 6 week adventure in New York City. Before I give you the images I’ve taken today I’m going to go back to my first trip to NY in November 2006. I was using my Minolta 35mm back then, kinda sad I didn’t bring it with me this time.
